In our company we produce precision mechanical parts or mechanisms using computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The raw materials for the production are chosen based on the finished product, and this has allowed us to acquire a deep knowledge of the materials used, both metallic and plastic. My greatest passions have always been live music and audio systems.
A few years ago, while listening to my audio system, I began to develop some new ideas. There were already various accessories on the market for optimizing the performance of audio systems of various shapes and sizes, made of different materials such as wood, cork, aluminum, brass, steel, etc., which were inserted into the systems in various ways.
Using those accessories, I noticed that they actually contributed to modify the sound of my system, and I spent hours combining various solutions to obtain the best result.
At that time, however, I did not fully understand the principles and the logical path in using those accessories and I often obtained uncertain and confused results. This audio-related discomfort almost “forced” me to devise alternative solutions that I made in my mechanical workshop. I spent years trying out what I built on my system and on those of my audiophile friends, taking notes, and associating, from time to time, the results obtained with various materials and different geometries; all replicable with decimal / centesimal precision.
Audio Mass Harmonic Balancers were also born by analogy with the balancers used in internal combustion engines. In those engines, as well as in electronics and speakers, there are vibrations and spurious resonances that can limit their performance. The harmonic balancer is a passive component, in charge of absorbing and channeling the spurious resonances and vibrations in function of its geometry and the material used.
The Harmonic Balancers we have obtained were therefore born out of a passion, followed a logical fine-tuning process, and allowed us to obtain excellent outcomes giving us the same “satisfaction” that pilots feel when, after every tuning, they see their lap time decrease as they go out on the track.
Audio Mass is about sharing an experience, it is dedication to music!
